More than setting a tub in place
A bathtub looks like the simplest fixture in the house. It is not. It has to sit perfectly level on a solid bed, connect to a drain and overflow that stay accessible, line up with the filler you chose, and meet a waterproofed wall at every edge.
Heavy tubs raise another question: floors. A cast iron or stone resin tub full of water is a serious load, so we look at the framing under it before we promise a spot.
What we install
Alcove tubs
The classic three-wall tub with a tiled or solid surround, replaced or installed new.
Freestanding tubs
The sculptural centerpiece, with the filler, drain and floor support planned together.
Soaking tubs
Deep tubs for the bathroom built around a bath, with the room laid out for them.
Tub fillers
Deck, wall or floor-mounted fillers — each needs different plumbing planned in advance.
Tub surrounds
Waterproofed walls and tile around the tub, tied to the tub edge the right way.
Tub replacement
Removing the old tub and putting in the new one, including heavy cast iron.
How a tub job goes
-
Pick the tub and the filler
Style, size and filler decide the plumbing, so those choices come first.
-
Check the floor and the lines
We look at the framing, the drain location and the supply lines before any work.
-
Set it level and seal around it
The tub is set level and fully supported, and the surround is waterproofed to it.
-
Finish and test
Tile, trim and filler go on, and the tub is filled and drained and checked.
Thinking about trading the tub for a walk-in shower instead? That is our most requested change. Read about tub to shower conversions, or design the new shower in the Shower Studio and see an itemized price.
While we’re in there
With the tub out, the floor and walls are open. Repair a soft subfloor, renew the supply lines, replace the vanity and toilet, or lay new flooring before the tub goes back. The same crew handles the waterproofing, tile and flooring, so nobody else has to be brought in. Tell Pine what you have been putting off.

Questions, answered honestly
Can you replace my tub without replacing the tile?
Usually the surround has to open at least partly, because the tub edge and the waterproofing meet the wall. We tell you honestly what your bathroom needs once we have seen it.
Can my floor hold a freestanding tub?
Often yes, but cast iron and stone resin tubs are heavy once filled. We look at the framing under the spot first.
Where does the filler go?
It depends on the type. Deck, wall and floor-mounted fillers each need different plumbing, so it is planned before the tub is set.
Can you remove an old cast iron tub?
Yes. They are heavy and awkward, and we handle the removal as part of the job.
Can I turn my tub into a shower instead?
Yes — see our tub to shower conversion page, or start in the Shower Studio.
